How to configure Gigaset N720 DECT

Gigaset N720 is EOL and can be manually configured through the DECT’s web interface.

In case you are going to configure your Gigaset N720 in a Multi-Cell environment read carefully the Multi-Cell Setup Guide of Gigaset before provisioning!

Step 1: Upgrade to Minimum required firmware

Check that the phone is running the latest firmware. Read how to check what firmware the phones are running and how to upgrade them in this guide: How to manually upgrade Gigaset DECT base.

Step 2: Factory Reset the Gigaset N system

Before provisioning, the DECT base must be brought back to factory defaults in case the device has residual settings of a previous configuration. To reset the device read our How to factory reset Gigaset DECT base.

Step 3: Get N720 IP and 3CX config details

  1. Get the base station IP address, click here for more information how to do this
  2. Go to the “User” for which you want to add the DECT phone.
  3. Go to the “IP Phone” tab. Click “Configure a phone” to add a phone.
  4. Select whether this phone will be located on the same local network as 3CX, or whether it is a remote phone and click “Next”.
  5. Select “Normal Phone” and enable the option to “Configure your phone manually without provisioning”.
  6. Now, if your phone is located outside the office, choose the router phone behind through which this phone will connect.
  7. A pop-up window will appear with the Authentication ID and Password. Depending on your installation you will also see:
  1. If on the local network: The 3CX Phone System LAN IP Address and Port number
  2. If in the cloud: Additionally, the SBC or Router phone’s IP address and Port number.  

        Take a note of them.

  1. Now login to the base station web portal and insert all the required details.

Step 4: Create a VoIP Provider in the base station

  1. Point your web browser to your device’s IP address.
  2. Go to “VoIP Providers” and press “Edit” to create.
  3. Add the “Provider” name and fill in all the information you retrieved from 3CX as:
  1. Domain : Enter the “Registrar Hostname or IP”
  2. Proxy server address : Enter the “Outbound proxy (SBC) Address”
  3. Proxy server port: Enter the “Outbound Proxy (SBC) Port”
  4. Registration server : Enter the “Registrar Hostname or IP”
  5. Registration server port: Enter the “Registrar SIP Port”
  6. Outbound server address: Enter the “Outbound proxy (SBC) Address”
  7. Outbound proxy port: Enter the “Outbound Proxy (SBC) Port”
  1. Press “Set”.

NOTE: You MUST have at least 1 Gigaset N720 IP Pro Base station assigned to the Gigaset N720 DM Pro DECT Manager, in order to be able to register your handsets.

Step 5: Create an Extension in the base station

  1. Go to “Mobile Devices”.
  2. Find the previously created SIP connection and press on “Edit”.
  3. Press on “Add” to create your extension. You will need to create a new mobile device for each extension.
  4. Fill in the following with the info you retrieved from 3CX above:
  1. “Authentication Name”: The Authentication ID
  2. “Authentication Password”
  3. “Username”: The Extension’s number
  4. “Display name”: The name of the user
  5. “Select VoIP Provider”: choose the provider you created on the previous step.
  6. Press “Set”
  1. Repeat this procedure to add more extensions.
  2. Now you are ready to pair your Handsets.

Step 6: Register the handsets

  1. Navigate to “Mobile Devices”.
  2. Select the extension you wish to register your handset to and click “Edit” and start registering with “Start registration”.
  3. On the handset →  Menu →  SettingsRegistration →  OK        
  4. Once Prompted to enter the PIN use the 4 digit number shown in the web interface of the dect manager.
  5. Once successfully paired, the surname and extension number will be shown in the display of the handset.
  6. Repeat the described steps for all Handsets you wish to register to the base station.

Known Limitations

  • No STUN Support
  • No Full CTI Support (Make Call Only)
  • No Company Phonebook
  • No LCD Language Provisioning
  • No Distinctive Ringing for external, queues or IVRs
  • No 3CX Firmware Management
  • No Admin password provisioning
  • No support for Paging Groups (incl. Multicast)
  • Extension’s surname must be set and must only contain letters without special characters
  • No Parking Orbit Support
