Snom PA1 Configuration for 3CX

Snom PA1

Snom PA1 is marked as end of life (EOL). You can still use this phone, but it must be manually configured. Keep in mind:

  • You cannot re-provision or reboot the phone remotely
  • You cannot upgrade the firmware
  • Be sure to use the suggested AUTH ID and password by 3CX as these passwords are very secure.

Know your model

Public Address System (PA): Expand your SIP PBX into a broadcasting system with the PA+. Make HD audio announcements from any Snom IP phone or play background music in rooms, office floors etc. It can be remotely controlled via SIP or DTMF to integrate existing door opening systems or take advantage of its LAN camera to set up or expand a security system. Costs in the region of $170.

Step 1: Factory reset your Snom PA1 device

If the phone is used and has been connected to another PBX system, you have to reset it first:

  1. Press and hold the “IP/Reset” button (located at the left of the LED lights) for 10 seconds and then release.
  2. The PA1 will restart and will be successfully reset.

Step 2: Manually configuring Snom PA1

You can configure your Snom PA1 device manually, directly from the phone’s web UI. To be able to proceed you will need:

  • You phone’s IP address
  • Details such as “Registar IP”, “Outbound Proxy Address” from your 3CX installation.

To retrieve the IP Address

  • Phones previously provisioned via 3CX - If the phone was previously provisioned via 3CX, then you can go to the phone’s web interface from the Management Console, PROVIDED THEY ARE ON THE SAME NETWORK! Use the username and password configured in the Management Console.
  • Phones not provisioned or provisioned on another system - Press the "IP/Reset" button briefly to hear the current IP Address of the Snom PA1 over the connected loudspeaker or in the headset.

Retrieve information from your 3CX Installation

  1. Go to the “User” for which you want to add the DECT phone.
  2. Go to the “IP Phone” tab. Click “Configure a phone” to add a phone.
  3. Select the option “Outside the Office” and click “Next”.
  4. Select “Normal Phone” and enable the option to “Configure your phone manually without provisioning”
  5. Now, choose the router phone behind through which this phone will connect.
  6. A pop-up window will appear with the Authentication ID and Password. Depending on your installation you will also see:
  1. If on the local network: The 3CX Phone System FQDN and Port number
  2. If in the cloud: The SBC or Router phone’s IP address and Port number.  

        Take a note of them.

Now login to the phone’s web portal and insert all the required details.

Step 3: Logging into the IP Phone web interface

Open the web UI of your phone. From the “Login” section configure as per below:

  1. “Identity Active” field: Select “On” to activate the account
  2. “Displayname”: Enter the name of the user
  3. “Account” field: Enter the extension number
  4. “Password”: Enter the “Authentication Password”
  5. “Registrar”: Enter your PBX’s FQDN, which is the “Registrar Hostname or IP” accompanied by the “Registrar SIP Port” number ex. your.public.fqdn:5560
  6. “Outbound Proxy”: Enter “Outbound Proxy (SBC) Address” accompanied by the “Outbound Proxy (SBC) Port” of your 3CX SBC ex. 10.28.1.30:5060
  7. “Authentication Username”: Enter the “Authentication ID”.
  8. To get the Voicemail notifications, add the 3CX Voicemail number to the “Mailbox” field (you can get the 3CX Voicemail number from the Voicemail setting of your 3CX Phone system)
  9. Apply changes.
