3CX Marks 10 Years of Supporting Let’s Encrypt!

Marking a decade of collaboration and continued support in 2025.

3CX is pleased to continue its support of Let’s Encrypt as a Silver Sponsor for the tenth consecutive year. Our collaboration began in 2016 and over the last decade we have continued to support the project as it expanded secure, automated certificate issuance across the internet.

How 3CX Uses Let’s Encrypt

3CX is using Let’s Encrypt to secure customer deployments using 3CX-owned FQDNs. Certificate issuance and renewal are handled automatically by 3CX, ensuring communication with installed systems remains encrypted without any manual intervention. This automation helps customers deploy faster, reduce configuration effort and maintain a consistently secure environment.

Ten Years of Progress

Let’s Encrypt recently reached its ten-year anniversary, having issued more than 7 billion certificates since launch. Throughout 2025, the project introduced several updates designed to improve automation, scalability, privacy, and operational efficiency.

Introduction of 6-Day and IP Address Certificates

In mid-2025, Let’s Encrypt began offering IP address certificates along with optional 6-day certificate lifetimes. These additions expand flexibility for subscribers and support a broader range of infrastructure scenarios.

End of OCSP Service

Let’s Encrypt retired its OCSP service in August 2025 to remove a significant privacy risk associated with OCSP queries. This shift aligns with modern approaches such as OCSP stapling and CRLite.

Retirement of the Expiration Notification Email Service

In June 2025, Let’s Encrypt discontinued its expiration notification emails to encourage full automation and eliminate the need to retain subscriber email addresses. This further reduces data collection and improves user privacy.

Improvements to Rate Limit Scaling

Let’s Encrypt also updated its rate limit mechanisms in early 2025 to make certificate issuance more efficient and scalable as global demand continues to grow.
