Keep your 3CX system up to date if you are not running the latest version.

3CX will be replacing SSL certificates required for PBX activation on February 24, 2025. If you’re running an older version of 3CX, your system will continue to work. From 24 February 2025 onwards, it will not be possible to renew the license if you make changes. We suggest therefore that you update as soon as possible. Read on for more details about what to do next.

How to Check Your 3CX Version

  1. Login to 3CX
  2. Check the version displayed on the Dashboard

If your system is running V18 Update 9B (Build 35) or V20 Update 3 (or later), no action is required.

If your system is on V18 Update 9A (Build 31) or earlier or V20 Update 2 or earlier, follow the steps below to update.

Who Needs to Update?

If your system is running V18 Update 9A or earlier update to at least V18 Update 9B. V18 Update 9B is safe to install. It not only addresses the SSL certificate issue but also extends license activation until September 2025, allowing more time for those planning a move to V20.

If you are on V20 Update 2 or earlier, you should update to the latest.

Systems already on these versions require no action.

What Happens If You Don’t Update?

  • License validation will be blocked - - You won’t be able to refresh your license key if updates have been made.
  • Your 3CX system will continue to work - but an update is required before 24 February 2025 to avoid later potential disruption.

How to Update

Updating is quick and easy:

If you are on Version 18 9A or earlier:

  1. Log in to your Management Console
  2. Navigate to Updates
  3. Select and install the latest version V18 Update 9B

If you are on Version 20 Update 2 or earlier:

  1. Log in to the Admin Console
  2. Navigate to System > Updates
  3. Select and install the latest version

We strongly recommend updating as soon as possible to avoid last-minute issues.

Version 18: Extended License Activation Until September 2025

For those still on Version 18, an update - V18 Update 9B - is available to extend license activation until September 2025. While this allows temporary functionality, we recommend planning your move to Version 20 for full support and the latest features.
