3CX SBC Update BETA Including Debian 13 Support

Performance and stability upgrades, component updates and a new base OS.

Keeping SBCs secure and up to date is essential for maintaining reliable connectivity between remote IP phones and your 3CX system. This update brings you refreshed components, several stability improvements, and introduces automatic Linux OS updates.

New SBC Beta for Windows and Debian 12

Updated Components

Various third-party components bundled with the SBC have been updated to their latest releases.

Automatic Linux OS Updates

Once installed, the new SBC automatically applies security updates from the Debian, Raspbian and Raspberry Pi OS repositories on a daily schedule, reducing the need for manual maintenance, helping protect against newly discovered OS-level vulnerabilities on an ongoing basis. SBC deployments are kept patched against OS-level security issues automatically, without manual intervention.

How to Upgrade

If you have SBCs configured on your 3CX PBX, the new SBC package will appear in the Admin Console; Click "System > Updates" in the Admin Console, select the new SBC package, and click on "Download".

3CX Adds Debian 13 (Trixie) Support to the 3CX SBC

The newly released 3CX SBC is optimized for Debian 13 (Trixie) on all supported platforms. Debian 12 remains fully supported, so there's no need to migrate immediately - but if you want to move to the latest base OS, follow the steps below.

Upgrading your Raspberry Pi OS for 3CX SBC

If you are currently running a 3CX SBC on a Debian 12 based Raspberry Pi and plan to move to Debian 13, we recommend that you start from scratch; essentially you would format your SD card and perform a clean install.

Upgrading your 3CX ISO-based SBC from Debian 12 to 13

To upgrade from Debian 12 to the latest Debian 13 (Trixie) on amd64, follow the steps below. This upgrade applies only to SBCs installed from the official 3CX ISO.

Requirements

The upgrade script validates your system before making any changes. The upgrade will only proceed if all of the following conditions are met:

• The system is running Debian 12 (Bookworm).
• The 3CX SBC is installed.
• The installation is based on the official 3CX ISO.
• No custom APT repositories are configured outside the 3CX allow list and no unrecognized repositories are detected.

If any checks fail, the script aborts and no changes are made to your system.

Upgrade Steps

1. SSH into your Debian SBC instance.
2. Run the following commands:

Once the process has been completed, a reboot of the instance will be needed.

SBC High Availability (HA) Cluster

The SBC HA option remains available, and we encourage you to make use of it, especially in environments where communications are critical. With the release of the new SBC with Debian 13 support, the HA setup scripts have been refined to ensure a smooth and optimized setup.
