Many partners ask for a road map. Whilst it is not possible to give an exact road map with features and dates, we can give a “heads up” on some of the things we are working on so as to give customers and partners an idea where we are headed. It should be noted that this in no way represents a guarantee when - or in fact at all - such features might become available.
As background, it should be noted that we attempt to release an update every two to three months with at least one significant feature inside it. That's actually a very aggressive schedule for a real-time application that will be rolled out to hundreds of thousands of installations, across operating systems, hardware platforms, endpoint devices and apps. To keep such a schedule, we require customers to be on recent versions and to use up to date equipment, otherwise rolling out new features at the speed that we do would not be possible. Having said that, and without guarantees, here is a look into our “kitchen”:
Update 4
Currently nearing completion. Alpha out this week, Beta out in November and possible release before end of year.
- New Google Extension which should make Webclient MUCH more user friendly
- Take calls without having to be in the web client tab or have it open
- Launch calls from your CRM/Office suite without leaving that window
- Easy deployment, central updates across all OS platforms.
- Improvements to Backup - support for SFTP and SMB protocol
Update 5
Development started. Beta should be out before Xmas or early next year.
- Support for Google Buckets for backup. Should be more reliable and much faster
- Update to WordPress plugin to support better chat feedback amongst other improvements
- Major update to Office integration with support for new API and thus more features (still to be determined which)
- Support for sending/receiving SMS (early stages)
Update 6/7
Date and feature set still very fluid.
- Support for Debian 10
- .NET core 3.5
- 911 improvements (to comply with new rules)
- MAYBE: Support for Raspberry PI4 64 bit
- MAYBE: Audit log
- MAYBE: Improved failover
- MAYBE: Improved outbound caller ID configuration
Phones
On our radar are support for Polycom devices - however we are awaiting updates and work to be done from Polycom’ side. If you are a fan of Polycom devices let Polycom support know you want them to support 3CX!
Android App
In the last 6 months we have completed a major rewrite of the Android App. It now is much more scalable and supports latest devices and technologies. This is largely invisible to the user but important for us to be able to keep innovating. On the road map for the Android app:
- Leverage the telecom API as it becomes available on more devices
- Add Video support
- Research Android Auto support
iOS App
We are currently in the process of a major rewrite and move to new Swift technology. This will allow us to innovate faster. In the coming 2-3 months, we expect to deliver:
- Completely new UI
- Video support (date is a bit more fluid)
- Native support of Apple new Push infrastructure
- Important notes:
- Main 3CX iOS app to stop supporting V15.5 by early December!
- A legacy app will be available for a few months beyond that. Apple will retire old PUSH infrastructure by March/April and so the old app will no longer work beyond that anyway.
- New app will only work with Apple iPhones 6S and beyond (6 and below are no longer updated)
We hope this has provided you with some background to help you plan your updates.
