Normal backups complete without any issues.

Trying to take a full backup before upgrading to v16 (Windows 10), I get the following error.
Any ideas?

3CX Phone System tried to backup but failed due to the following reason(s):
System.IO.IOException: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)
at System.IO.FileStream.ReadCore(Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 count)
at System.IO.FileStream.Read(Byte[] array, Int32 offset, Int32 count)
at System.IO.Stream.InternalCopyTo(Stream destination, Int32 bufferSize)
at _3cxNetBackupAndRestore._3cxBackup.ZipFile(String dst, IFile src)
at _3cxNetBackupAndRestore.BackupTasks.BaseFilesTask.BackupFiles()

That is most likely a physical issue. Connection between your computer and the HD. Even though something else might work. Get ready to move to a new machine :/

Looks like the PBX is getting an I/O error back from the operating system. You might want to add a different drive and do a full backup there since the current drive returned an error.

What other options do I have?

I get the same I/O error when I try to write a full backup to Google Drive.

AFAIK it writes to the local disk first, and then tries to upload to Google Drive so that's not a real test. I'd reboot the machine first and try a local backup again. If it still errors out I would try putting a USB drive or stick and then change the local backup path to that and try

That makes sense - (writing to the local disk first).
Multiple reboots & same error.
Thanks, I'll have to try a USB stick.

Avoid USB Sticks for this test, they are not known for their good I/O performance

Try a USB HDD or SSD if possible.

Tried a USB HDD.
Same I/O error (via email) even though it does show a .zip file in "Backup & Restore".

What's next?

If you can spare the downtime I'd run a full chkdsk /f on that machine (will require a reboot) or maybe just try moving the windows temp folder in case it always writes to the temp folder before moving the backup so anything will fail if that's the problem.

Have you been in event viewer in windows to see if errors or critical messages are logged in?
is it possible you have a hardware problem on PC MB or RAM ?
If you can run a memtest to check RAM

I want to make sure I mentioned this. (I think I did in the OP)
It only fails on full backup, when all the boxes are checked except the password/encryption box.

if you do a large file transfer like a linux distribution out of 3CX, does it work properly on same devices?

Not sure I understand this question, could you re-ask?

if you try for test to do a file transfer (choose for example a linux distribution to DL as the file are big) with an heavy file to stress your devices HDD RAM then you 'll see if you got same behavior like in 3cx backup and if not then problem is not on devices but only on 3CX

Ok, let me try that.

is your backup failure a new problem or it never worked ?

if you try to untick some of the options included in backup settings does it work properly or even with lighter backup it behave the same

With only the 1st 3 boxes checked, it works fine.
It fails if I check every box except the password/encryption option.

so problem is probably on recordings , do you almost use recordings ? perhaps if you have none, it's a problem with 3CX backup process.

If you use recordings, are they stored on PBX or already out?

This client uses recordings.
They are stored on the PBX.

The Recordings folder is approx 80MB.
