3CX Roadmap & V18 alpha - Connecting Customers!

When can we expect the first beta of V18? Some neat stuff coming that we're eager to play with!
We can't say 100%, but we are currently putting the final touches on. It is very possible that you will see it within the next 1-2 weeks.

@Nick Galea just a quick addition talking about chat notification in the Windows client:
It would be great to have a small option (even an entry in 3cxphone.xml would suffice) to play the chat sound via "ringing" output instead of "speaker" output. If you turned the volume all the way up in order to understand the caller, it really hurts your ears when a chat message arrives during the call.
@Nick Galea The audio options in my 3CX Windows Client were reset during the last update. That's why I heard the chat sound via headphones. Sorry for bothering!

@JueGra Sorry for late response and thank you for detailed feedback. With v18 we are making a massive step towards private MCU. Its not far off but its hard to give exact dates. How it will work is that you are able to download and install an MCU setup. Host it in your cloud (or on premise but you need a lot of bandwidth) and then you can point all meetings in 3CX to this MCU. Its probably something we will do in the coming months but i cant commit to a date. V18 has the webmeeting portal and all important stuff onboard so we need to finish that first.
Hello Nick,

No problem, thanks a lot for your reply. I see the local MCU as the USP par excellence for 3CX. At the moment I don´t know any communication system from other manufacturers that can do that.

But I really hope it doesn´t take months to have the first downloadable MCU setup. Otherwise I have to install another separate OnPremise webconference solution for my customers in the meantime.

Also we now have the chance to use the anger at Microsoft to expand our customer base to win against MS Teams. In a few months it will all be forgotten again.

Best regards
Jürgen

@JueGra - I think 3CX has many other good points over Teams besides the future MCU :) Any case its most certainly going to take months just to be clear.....

No, they weren't removed, I am guessing though that the License Key you used to activate the test V18 is a Standard key? If you aren't sure, go to Settings --> License, press the "Refresh License Key Information" button, and check the first line.

That should tell you what License Key type you have. If it says Pro or Enterprise, then just trying logging out/in of the Management Console, or clearing the browser cache.

Yes it's a stadard ( Free key for testing purpose ). That's why i don't have Call Queues.

I am converting a customer currently using a Fonality trixbox Pro based system to 3CX. As we were discussing the change one of the questions was if their phones would work with 3CX. The list of phones supported and available to be provisioned showed (and still shows on our v16 system) the Yealink T38 (albeit noted as end of life) which is what they have in their office, so I told them we would be able to use them. I just spun up a hosted system for them and it appears the system is v18 and the list of supported phones has changed and the T38 is missing. Is there any chance it could be added back? I also see a lot of other phone makes and models are missing as well.

@Callinectes The phones are still available, but on premise only or private cloud. These phones we're end of life in 2015 and are not secure enough to be connected to 3CX Hosted. You could use a private cloud at your own risk...

In the release notes of the V18 Alpha is mentioned
NEW GATEWAY SERVICE - Responsible for Integration with Third Party Systems (Will Also Host REST API in Future)

The REST APIs to make and receive calls for when planned?

Any chance we will see SAML?

My employees are going to be excited about improved voice quality but they're also going to ask me when they can MMS. I'm guessing MMS functionality is not going to make 18.0... do you hope to have MMS deployed this year?

@SethTalley No problem at all - MMS is easy for us to add and will almost certainly come in an update soon after the release. Its just we need to focus on a few things to get the core of v18 right. So we put the small stuff for later. Our architecture will allow for MMS easily. We just need to check with all providers that all works, update the guides etc.

@luckystrikes thanks for the heads up ! :)
RE webclient, as per @noord suggestion we are looking at electron to have a windows based version of the web app and its looking promising. (whatsapp uses same) Wont make it into the first version of 18 but maybe for an update. Also we are working on tidying up the web client and making it better first.
Hi Nick,

I'm not (yet) a 3cx customer, we're currently evaluating the solution in order to migrate to a new phone system by the end of the year.
IMO the Electron app would definitely be appreciated. 3cx seems really promising, but windows client is a bit 'old school' and not very user friendly (for example, you can't easily change mic ou headphone volume during a call). It's a bit frustrating compared to the webapp much more modern or other softphone apps.

In my company, work from home will remain after COVID, so we'll deploy only softphone on users' laptop and a modern interface easy to use is a very important criteria for them.
Hope we'll be able to show them this new client to help 3cx adoption :)

By the way, as a new 3cx user, I really appreciate this kind of forum topic, where the CTO spends time with his customer for feedback and roadmap, really cool and a very good point !

@bac.aro Thank you for the heads up :) Yes the windows client will be replaced with the electon app, its just around the corner. Just wait a month or two and it will be available :)
