Contacts Visibility Difference Between Mobile and Web Client

We have noticed an issue with a contacts visibility difference between the mobile client and the web/desktop client. In the mobile client, a user can see all extensions across the system including other departments. This is problematic when we are hosting distinct and separate groups within the same 3CX system. For the same user, they do not see these contacts when using the web or desktop client. There is a clear difference in visibility and this seems to be a programming oversight.

We opened a support ticket with our distributor who confirmed this observation and said it appears to be as designed. They suggested reaching out to 3CX directly. This issue has been tested and confirmed using either the iOS or Android versions of the app. It would be much better if the mobile app was limited to showing only extensions within the same department, as the web/desktop client already does.

Does anyone know if this has been acknowledged and/or if there are any plans to fix this? I'm sure if anyone here tries this using a mobile app on a system with multiple departments that don't share info between each other, you will see what I mean.

Hi,

Any chance of some screenshots? What version are you running? Also, what type of user? A quick test on Android was not showing this issue for me.

Best,
K.

Yes -- here are some screenshots. Two from the web app and two from the mobile. Same user account logged into both. You'll notice that the Teams area between web and mobile is about the same. But if you switch to Contacts, the mobile app shows extensions of a different department. While the web app just shows an entry that is in the phonebook saved to the 3CX server.

The type of user we are testing with is a System Owner in this case, but the problem was first noticed by a standard User logged into the mobile app. Again, the problem is just with the mobile app. It shows extensions from other departments and there seems to be no way to prevent this.

@phoneguy84 Thanks for your feedback.
The reason why we expose extensions in the Contacts page of the mobile apps is because we utilize this information for Google Assistant/Siri usage to make calls via voice.

One can use the filters to switch between All and 3CX Phonebook contacts. In addition compared to Web app, Android or iOS shows device contacts if permission was granted after provisioning

Thanks @ThomB_3CX for the reply. I understand that the mobile app will fetch more contacts from the device, Google, Siri, etc. And we know that it can be changed from "All" to a limited phonebook list. But that doesn't prevent the user from switching back to "All" and seeing all extensions from other departments. It would be nice to be able to limit this visibility in the mobile app based on department settings. Otherwise it defeats the purpose of hosting multiple distinct groups on one 3CX server and keeping those groups compartmentalized.
