We are running a local windows VM for our hosted server that has been running great for quite some time. That being said, we're still running build 18.0.7.312 (Update 7 Final) from March. It's finally calm enough to update 3CX and I was just trying to do some CYA work before pulling the trigger. The VM will be snapshotted before the upgrade for good measure. I'm just trying to see if there will be any obvious reasons to expect dozens of IT tickets when I roll into work the next day!

After sifting through the extensive changelog since then, I'm curious to see if we'll be affected by any unforeseen consequences from some of these changes. We have around 200 extensions with a blend of Fanvil, Yealink, and Grandstream desk phones. Roughly half of our users have their iPhones registered through the iOS app as well.

Here are the things that I'm most concerned about:
  1. Fanvil time zones - We had to manually log into each phone individually earlier this year to get all of our Fanvil phones on the correct time zone. I'm curious as to whether or not the Fanvil fix that has since been implemented will undo our previous work and knock them back into the wrong time zone. I'm sure some minor things will change on a large scale with the new firmware updates for all of the brands of phones that we use, but this time zone issue kinda scares me since the vast majority of our phones are Fanvils.
  2. iOS certificates - I don't recall the specifics, but I seem to remember a time in the past where a handful of users had to remove/reinstall the app due to a certificate being updated after a 3CX upgrade. Again, I don't recall exactly what the reason for this was and could possibly be misremembering things. Seeing this on the changelog just threw up a flag for me.
  3. Welcome email - We have been using a rather heavily modified welcome email template for quite some time. Will this upgrade simply override the old template with a "fresh" one or could there potentially be issues with the new one incorrectly merging with the verbiage of the old one?
  4. I hope there isn't a #4 :)

Thank you for any feedback, everyone!

Hi @CKFIT

Before upgrading you can spin a test machine and test by yourself the last version, you can also take a backup file without the license information so you can restore on the PBX for testing and see the performance.

Just to let you know about your questions:

There are new firmwares for fanvil, Yealink, SNOM and Grandstream phones that fix many known issues, more info here.

iOS certificates, as you could see in the change log these are downloaded from the PBX management console to keep using the push service with the APN servers. If these are not installed in your system you will get push notifications issues when using any iPhone. These are necessary to receive incoming call and chat notifications.

About welcome emails, there is a major change in the welcome emails for security reasons. If you are using custom templates for the welcome email, then please do the following: Access to the PBX management console —- Settings —- Parameters — search for MAILTEMPLATE_EXTWELCOME_CUSTOM and delete it.

In that way the default template will be used.

Please check the following blog posts where you will find more information about the new changes on the welcome email:

Have a great day!

Thanks for your help. It looks like the main thing I can see before everyone comes into the office is that it severed our connection to Google for speech to text email transcriptions, but I can set that up tomorrow pretty quickly.
I still have not been able to get any test emails to send from the 3cx smtp system, so that's a little worrisome. Sometimes there are delays, but I'm going on 15 minutes without any test welcome emails or voicemail notifications for test messages I've left myself.

Running the test from the admin console does nothing and has no confirmation or error message. So that's interesting!

Just now seeing a "Connection timed out: Ensure that Port 2528 TCP is open for outbound traffic." after a bit of a delay. I see numerous call outs to this from tickets that predate our previous version. We've been using that 3CX smtp server forever with the same firewall settings.

This must have been an issue with the 3CX smtp server, as emails were rolling through when I woke up this morning. Nice.
