What’s Cooking? Our Road Map

I would advocate for small improvements to dial by names functionality.

1. A directory report of extensions including column showing who have or have not recorded their names which is a pre-requisite requirement for dial by name to work. (Currently must troubleshoot on case by case basis)
For directory reporting in addition to this purpose it can be used as printable extension list (Some places like to have hard copy lists)
Logical options for this report would be filtering to show all extensions or only extensions that appear in 3cx company phonebook (we exclude some extensions that are things like break room, and testing extensions, utility extensions like the fake forwarding ones we create for shared parking)
Optional fields to be toggled on report: Fields that show users with voicemail enabled, users with custom voicemail greeting recorded, name recorded, Number of voicemails currently stored and amount of storage consumed, number and amount of recordings stored,

2. Option to set dial by name to search by First name, Last name, or either name. In a family business when most or all employees share the same last name the current system cannot be used.

3. Option to manage recorded name in extension voicemail tab in admin interface

@GaSo, ts9556 - We have good APIs for the most needed integrations. The most obvious integration is with CRM / Helpdesk for call logging / caller ID matching etc. We have a created API there with a template generator thats super easy to use. We have a CFD which allows you to do almost anything and a lot of it visually. So you can create 99% of the custom apps that you need with 3CX. Easily and fully inline with its architecture.

Hi Nick, thank you for taking your time to reply.
Could you provide us with some solutions or insights into:

- Able to provision 3CX by API or changeable configuration files? (just like we provision aws/azure servers). With multiple installations, putting all settings right in 3CX is a waste of time.
What is the best way to achieve this ?

- We need to update holidays "per installation" , an API to push specific vacation days in mass would be ideal.

- We're building our own user friendly control panel with a calendar, as it's too complicated for our users to use 3cx directly, we focus on:
-> Default week, dragging open, closed, redirect to custom extention(s) and redirect to external number(s) (similar to google calendar)
-> Calendar (with months ahead) to overwrite exemptions from the "normal week".
-> This all with multiple instances per installations (as some of our customers have multiple numbers for different departments)
Is something like this on the 3CX roadmap, as our users want an easy solution. If not, no issue we're already developing it with call flow http calls to a webserver.

- An API to change 3CX settings would be ideal, like altering Call Queue's on the fly. To add or remove extentions. To enable and disable extentions etc. Also to trigger IVR's to call a phone to record a new message. We don't want our users to login into admin (too complicated for them). But we do want to give them an option to enter new vacation, temporary away, etc messages.

A general API to read and save settings from a different server would be highly welcome and making 3cx for us an even better product.

Edit: Oh yes, and being able to trigger call queue's directly from BLF. And able to show red or green on BLF for "enabled" or "disabled" as a feature for the call queue. Currently we link first to a IVR and they use it to enable and disable vacation and other modes (like directing to a call center, etc) directly on the phone. But they can't see now if it's on or off, which we had with FreeBPX (not saying that freebpx is better, for most other things it's not better, 3cx is a lot more userfriendly).

When is the alpha/beta coming out, really want to test out the extension. We have a client we did a POC for and they want agents to handle calls without leaving CRM

Thank you all for your feedback. Please post feature requests to the ideas forum. @GaSo an API to configure 3CX extension settings is not something we are planning to do. Also it might impact support of the system. But if you wish post a feature request. What can already be done is provision a SIP trunk for example @Mwamba not long now, we are using it in house already update 4.

"New Google Extension which should make Webclient MUCH more user friendly
Take calls without having to be in the web client tab or have it open"

This sounds great. If it could also send the phone ring to the speakers and leave the call in the headset, it would be perfect. Currently, the Windows app is still mandatory to make sure we hear calls. It's not great to have to maintain two interfaces (the web app + the desktop app), so if you can consider this, it would be great. I'm sure that Chrome can handle it, I saw it from one of your competitors.

I would be delighted to do it Nick, but I can't :) I don't remember what are the criteria, but being a "simple" customer, I can't post there. I can understand that my voice won't be as important as an integrator, but who knows, one day I might have a really good idea? :)

Good point re ring on speakers and call on headset will check it out!

Raspberry Pi 4 support needs to be stepped up date wise, it is a major advancement in the product line. A device that uses about the same power as a cellphone but can do 16+SC!

I do understand that buster is not a LTS release, however it is the first release to support the Pi4. Just my thoughts. Love 3CX!

@criticalcool - We need to move to Debian 10 first to support Raspberry PI4. Definitely something we will do but will take a few months. Yes we agree its a great device and will be great to run 3CX

@kent3 - no, in our view a multi tenant system is out of date. What we will have way is better grouping so that you can separate groups of extensions and hide them from each other. With the cloud its now very easy to deploy seprate instances and manage them separately using our multi instance manager. We expect that over time we will be able to support things like Docker and Kubernetes which will make managing multipple instances even easier.

Hi Nick

Thanks for getting back to me!

The only issue with separate instances is that each tenant would need a separate license, in the 4 or 5 I have been involved in, the business park management company owns the large SC license and sells seats on it. If they had to purchase 20 - 30 4SC licenses, the 3CX pricing soon becomes not so great.

@Nick Galea maybe create smaller Pro licenses for this scenario, 1SC and 2SC?? That may make it more financially viable and easier to sell to shared office management teams.

No this is not our market. Also our price is very good. Plus standard license is free for 4 and 8 sc anyway. I agree that for companies with say 2/3 extensions you need a multi tenant platform, but its not our market. That said, if its just one extension (i.e people running a solo home business) they want 3CX can be quite good actually as you can simply be a user on a 3CX system

You realize that the Std 8SC is free, right? So why bother with multitenant?

Also, the "shared office spaces" you speak of are not the most common type of customer for this system. 3CX is aimed at large enterprises that need an affordable system when they have 10000 extensions but only use maybe 100 simultaneous. 3CX's market is there.

any moment now, probably early next week but dont pin me to the date! we are waiting for google to approve the extension, takes a few days as they have to security check it

All those checks and delays! It's like Apple with their iOS app verification.

3CX is far more superior than many big-name VoIP solutions. In fact, I cannot find anything that can win 3CX. But there is a nagging issue, it is the 7 days unregistered issue for mobile app users. After a long holiday, I can see hundreds of my colleagues are not registered. Please let us have the option to change the days or disable it.

You can see the threads here:

Thanks for the like. Will this be look into? Please advise. Appreciate it.

The 7-days limit is not 3CX fault. It's how Push servers work. There's an expiration for those. This is basically Apple's fault. I think Google has an expiration too.

If not, your old iPhone would still receive your Facebook notifications even after selling it.
