Step 1: Identify your Exact Grandstream GDS Door Phone Model and MAC Address
Be sure you follow the steps for the right phone model. You can find the model and the MAC address on the label at the back of the phone. Take a note of the MAC address, you will need this for the configuration.
Step 2: Factory Reset the Grandstream IP Door Phone
If you access the Web UI of your GDS device, you can reset it to Factory Default settings as follows:
- Log into the Web UI by entering the IP of the device into your browser.
- Enter the credentials of the device (default username is "admin" and the unique password came on the device as a sticker from the factory)
- Navigate to “Maintenance” → “Reboot & Reset”
- In the Reset drop-down, select “Clear All Data” and press the Reset button
- Once the device reboots, it will be in a Factory Default state.
Hardware Reset
If you cannot access the Web UI of the device and you need to reset it to Factory Defaults, then you can do the following:
- Locate the Wiegand cable that was shipped with your device. You will need the included Wiegand cable that came with your doorphone, as there is no reset button inside the device.
- Power OFF the doorphone.
- Connect the coloured wires of the Wiegand cable as follows:
- WHITE and BROWN cable together
- GREEN and ORANGE cable together
- All other cables should be left unconnected
- Insulate all cables to avoid a short circuit.
- Connect the Weigand cable to the back of the device and power it ON.
- Once the LED lighting starts blinking, enter the following key combination: ‘*’ ‘0’ ‘#’
- If the correct key sequence is entered, a long tone will be played.
- Wait 4-5 minutes for the Factory Reset process to complete.
- Power OFF the device again and remove the Weigand cable.
- Power ON the device again.
- To check if the process was successful, attempt to log into the Web UI of the device using the default username “admin”. The default password is located on a sticker on the back of the device.
Note: If during Step #6 the wrong sequence is entered, you will hear 3 short beep sounds, signifying an error in the process
Step 3: Add The Phone to the Extension
From the admin console in your web client:
- Go to “Users” and select the user you want to add a phone for.
- Click on the “IP Phone” tab. Click “Configure a phone” to add a phone.
- Now select your phone model from the dropdown menu.
- Enter the phone’s MAC address without dashes or colons, and click “Add phone”.
Step 4: Router Phone, SBC or LAN?
- If 3CX is on the cloud, you must use a router phone or SBC:
- If it is not a router phone you need to specify one or an SBC.
- If the device is a router phone, you can connect it directly as a router itself.
- If 3CX is on premise or self hosted, you have an additional option, you can select “Local LAN/VPN”.
- Click “Add Phone” to save the phone configuration for this extension.
Step 5: Connect the Phone
3CX will now create provisioning information for the phone and make these available on the provisioning URL. The phone must connect to this URL to retrieve its configuration information and authentication details. You have the following options:
- RPS - Connect the phone to the network within 14 days. If it is already connected, restart it. The phone will be configured automatically and restarted.
- PNP - If 3CX is on premise or connected via SBC, you can connect the phone to the LAN and look for it in the PNP dialog (Admin Console > Phones > PNP Phones). Right click and assign it to the extension you configured above.
- Alternatively you can login to the phone's webUI and enter the URL manually. You can also use DHCP option 66.
