How to Configure Snom D8 Series
Snom D812, D815, D862, D865 and SP800 models
Important
- If the phone is not new and has been connected to another PBX system, you have to reset it first. See how to do this here.
- If it’s an old phone, you might have to upgrade its firmware to a newer version. See how to do this here.
- If you are planning to install a router phone, read the section below regarding the firmware requirements.
- If you don't want to use RPS, you have to enter the provisioning URL into the phone via its web interface. The phone will be configured automatically and then restart. Use the DHCP option 66 if you have a large number of identical legacy phones (as the URL is different for each phone).
- The D8 Series does not support automatic web UI login. The web console username and password will need to be entered manually (found under your extension’s IP Phone page).

- Router Phone - A Router Phone or an SBC is required to bundle all SIP traffic over a single TCP port and direct the signalling to the IP Phones. At least one Router Phone is required if your 3CX System is in the cloud or it's a remote phone connected to an on-premises system.
Step 1: Identify Your Exact Snom D8 Phone Model and MAC Address
Be sure you follow the steps for the right phone model. You can find the model and the MAC address on the label at the back of the phone or by pressing the settings button and navigating to “Page Information > System Info”. The snom MAC address always starts with 000413 followed by a series of numbers and/or letters. Take a note of the MAC address, you will need this for the configuration.
Step 2: Add the Snom Phone to the Extension
From the admin console in your web client:
- Go to “Users” and select the user you want to add a phone for.
- Click on the “IP Phone” tab. Click “Configure a phone” to add a phone.
- Now select your phone model from the dropdown menu.
- Enter the phone’s MAC address without dashes or colons, and click “Add phone”.
Step 3: Router Phone, SBC or LAN?
- If 3CX is on the cloud, you must use a router phone or SBC:
- If it is not a router phone you need to specify one or an SBC.
- If the device is a router phone, you can connect it directly as a router itself.
- If 3CX is on premise or self hosted, you have an additional option “Local LAN/VPN”.
- Click “Add Phone” to save the phone configuration for this extension.
Step 4: Connect the Snom Phone
3CX will now create provisioning information for the phone and make these available on the provisioning URL. The phone must connect to this URL to retrieve its configuration information and authentication details. You have the following options:
- RPS - Connect the phone to the network within 14 days. If it is already connected, restart it. The phone will be configured automatically and restarted.
- PNP - If 3CX is on premise or connected via SBC, you can connect the phone to the LAN and look for it in the PNP dialog (Admin Console > Phones > PNP Phones). Right click and assign it to the extension you configured above.
- Alternatively, you can log in to the phone's webUI and enter the URL manually. You can also use DHCP option 66.
