Move your extension and account automatically.
Windows Softphone V5.7 makes it easier to move from the legacy 3CX Desktop App. On first launch, the Softphone checks whether the Desktop App is installed on the same Windows PC. If a valid configuration is found and the stored 3CX server is reachable, users can migrate with one click.

Migrate on First Launch
When an existing Desktop App installation is detected, the Windows Softphone displays a “Migrate from Desktop App” button.
Clicking the button opens a confirmation dialog showing:
- The 3CX server the Softphone will connect to.
- The extension that will be provisioned.
The user can review these details before selecting “Proceed”. The Softphone is then provisioned automatically using the existing Desktop App configuration.
Only Available for Active PBX Connections
Before offering the migration option, the Softphone checks whether the PBX stored in the Desktop App configuration is reachable. The migration process works as follows:
- The Softphone checks for an existing Desktop App configuration file.
- It sends a request to the stored 3CX server.
- If the server cannot be reached, the check fails silently and the migration button is not shown.
- If the server responds, the “Migrate from Desktop App” button becomes available.
- The user confirms the server and extension before migration begins.
This prevents users from being prompted to migrate an old configuration linked to an unavailable server.
Silent Migration for Administrators
Administrators can also migrate Windows Softphone installations remotely across multiple PCs. Using the --provision-via-desktopapp flag, Softphone can provision itself silently from the existing Desktop App configuration. This allows administrators to manage migrations across a fleet without requiring each user to complete the process manually.
