Startup Wizard, secure calls and reconnection in 3CX Android app beta

The just-released beta version of the re-designed Android app implements a new development approach that immediately delivers these benefits:

  • New flexible UI - the new interface makes functionality more accessible without sacrificing eye candy and compatibility with Android devices. Also included is a new Startup Wizard to assist in setting up and provisioning your extension with 3CX. Take it for a spin and let us know your thoughts.
  • Secure calls by default - the new app takes advantage of the new tunnel encryption functionality in V16 to provide secure communication out of the box, while in your network environment or on the road. Just provision your extension with the beta app, make a call and notice the on-screen padlock icon denoting the call is encrypted.
  • Reconnect calls - the new beta now automatically attempts to reconnect calls disconnected at any point of your communication, handling unforeseen network hiccups and keeping you from hitting re-dial.

Requirements & Known Issues

The new Android app Beta:

  • requires V16 Update 2 with a valid, not self-signed, SSL certificate.
  • is supported on Android 7 Nougat, Android 8 Oreo and Android 9 Pie.
  • is still being tested on the new Android 10 Q Beta unreleased to public and for the time being is not considered compatible.

How to Upgrade

Open the 3CX Beta Program link to join and download the new Android Beta app through the Google Play Store.

To try out this app you need to have the latest V16 PBX: Click on “Updates” in the Management Console’s Dashboard, select “v16 Update 2” and click on “Download Selected” to install this update on your PBX. Alternatively, you can get the v16 Update 2 for Windows or Linux below:
