The latest 3CX App for Android Beta has arrived and it’s jam-packed full of fixes, improvements and new features. Included is the well known CallKit-like functionality that enables the app to take advantage of bluetooth headsets and integration with bluetooth accessories in general.
Answer your Calls via Bluetooth
Thanks to the Android app's new CallKit-like functionality, the integration with bluetooth headsets and accessories is finally possible! The ability to answer and drop calls via bluetooth accessories has been a long requested feature but was not possible due to lack of support by the Android OS. Keep in mind that this functionality is fairly new and only adopted by specific mobile device manufacturers. Even though generally supported only on flagship devices at the moment, we should be adding more and more supported devices for this most wanted feature!
To add even more value, adding this feature in the Android app has allowed us to make major improvements in terms of handling multiple simultaneous calls and has even helped to eradicate the majority of audio routing problems when using the app whilst listening to music via bluetooth, headphones or loudspeaker.
IPv6 Optimizations
Bundled in the latest 3CX app for Android Beta release are even more improvements to IPv6 networking support. These include TLS (Transport Layer Security) over IPV6 improvements, as well as optimized functionality to reduce the time needed to connect to your PBX over an IPv6 network.
Other Improvements
You’ll also notice that we’ve given a lot of attention to making improvements to existing functionality like auto-capitalization of sentences in chats, improvements and fixes to the white theme, as well as fixes to the existing audio conferencing functionality and the general app styling. Some features have been renamed for ease of use, for example: “QR Provisioning” is now called “Scan QR Code”.
In addition to the above, we’ve updated the core functionality of the app in a couple of places, to increase the app’s efficiency and optimize its behavior in general. The SIP core has also been updated to one of the latest stable versions.
Known Issues and Limitations
- CallKit-like functionality is available only for specific Android devices based on each device manufacturer’s support.
- Based on our tests the app's CallKit-like functionality currently supports these devices: Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, all OnePlus phones. More devices to be added in upcoming releases.
- Support and integration with CarPlay are not fully functional, to be addressed in upcoming releases.
