3CX Roadmap & V18 alpha - Connecting Customers!

@SyncWave No they are still two separate platforms. One for web conferencing, one for calls including video calls. They are not really suited to be merged. However the integration will be much better as it will feel more integrated into 3CX. Just that attendees on smartphones will still have the video start up in a separate app window... i dont think it makes a big difference in my view....... If you just want to make video calls, then i agree its better to have it in the 3CX phone app. We have it now for 1 on 1 and we will add more capability there.
We must have a communication disconnect here. I just checked my testing box for v18 and I created a webmeeting that is running off that 3CX PBX, no longer outsourcing it to some cloud system URL.

I'm eager to see the next v18 image update. As you know the current one is trailing behind various updates in 16.X. I'm also excited about some fixes in 18 that I've been told will correct some CFD issues I'm having with 16.X (plan to upload them into our aphla instance to verify that tomorrow).

With RCS support, should we expect media content to start coming through if we enable MMS from our carriers? I know MMS and RCS aren't the same thing and RCS but MMS seems to be the evolution of MMS as a standard. Not sure whats happening with carrier certification of this stuff on your end.

@SyncWave - no the alpha definitely does not have the new webmeeting integration but most likely next beta will. It wont have RCS either, we are working on something else. MMS is on the roadmap for an update....We plan to support many messaging types over time, this is a core strategy for 3CX. Its take time to release each one.

V18 will also make a massive step forward in terms of call quality, less resource usage due to less transcoding, faster re connects etc etc. I think iOS and Android clients are coming of age as the preferred and best way to make calls. We are already running v18 on our production PBX just to give you an idea of where we are :)

@Nick Galea That's great to here! Some of what you're saying makes me wonder if the SIP core was enhanced/changed. Any chance we'll see ring busy agent support coming to queues or ring groups in the near future? Thats one of the big 3 that cause us to sell other platforms to clients based on their needs. A fix for recording in v18 for CFD's will knock the big 3 down to 2 :)

Hi @Nick Galea with the first release of v18 the CFD has the "Parallel Execution" support?

Any ETA to final version?

We have a project in standby waiting to this function.

Hi @nicojmb,

The CFD for v18 will include the Parallel Execution component.

The release of this new version will be a few weeks after the final release of v18, as we usually do. Please keep an eye on the 3CX blog.

Regards.

We can't provide any ETA, but v18 is the next major release, so it will be soon....

Hi,
What would permit the parallel execution for CFD?
In my mind, it is already doing it.

With this component you can for example play a prompt while you're accessing a database to get some data. Currently these operations are executed in sequence.

Quick question regarding the dial by name, will it still require users to record a self-ID?

Sorry if it was asked already...

Are there anymore SMS proividers in the pipeline, specifically UK enabled, Im currently providing some NHS clients with a 3rd party portal for bulk SMS, will 3CX be able to bulk SMS also?

While there may be new providers generally coming in the future, at the time of writing we do not have plans to add support for Bulk SMS. We are focusing on P2P Messaging only.

Hi @Nick Galea

I am really interested and excited about help desk, we have also being using Fresh desk and want to switch to 3CX help desk when it will be released. I see great opportunities for us and our customer and really good way to sell more ;-)

Will it be launched same time as V18 or later? I am asking since I need to renew yearly subscription for Freshdesk middle of April and want to renew less than year if I have some idea of release?

Thx Thor

@Thorvaldur Hardarson Thanks for the heads up! No need to renew for a whole year... We are bundling a helpdesk solution so it wont be long but we need to finalize some things first. It will probably be in update 1

Hello Nick,

I have a lot of customers asking for the local MCU again.

The topic is as important and relevant as ever because of recent events:

One of the biggest Datacenters in EU is destroyed in a fire
https://www.datacenterknowledge.com/uptime/fire-has-destroyed-ovh-s-strasbourg-data-center-sbg2

Exchange attacks
https://www.helpnetsecurity.com/2021/03/15/microsoft-exchange-exploit/

And last but not least the canceled EU Privacy Shield in combination with the US Cloud Act of last year.

They are all searching for an alternative to Microsoft and all American controlled software providers. Most of them want a solution for their OnPremise Environment as well.
Many of my customers are so angry with Microsoft that they want to get rid of them completely. No Azure, no Microsoft product, no American cloud service at all. Now is the time for alternative solutions!

Do you have any estimation for a beta with integrated local MCU (webconference system)? I need something to present to my customers.

Best regards

Jürgen

@noord - good suggestion, we are taking it onboard to get better notification in the web client and Windows client! And about web windows version, good point. We did have one years ago unfortunately each choice has its pros or cons. But we will consider!
@Nick Galea just a quick addition talking about chat notification in the Windows client:
It would be great to have a small option (even an entry in 3cxphone.xml would suffice) to play the chat sound via "ringing" output instead of "speaker" output. If you turned the volume all the way up in order to understand the caller, it really hurts your ears when a chat message arrives during the call.

Hello Nick,

Best regards

Jürgen
@JueGra Sorry for late response and thank you for detailed feedback. With v18 we are making a massive step towards private MCU. Its not far off but its hard to give exact dates. How it will work is that you are able to download and install an MCU setup. Host it in your cloud (or on premise but you need a lot of bandwidth) and then you can point all meetings in 3CX to this MCU. Its probably something we will do in the coming months but i cant commit to a date. V18 has the webmeeting portal and all important stuff onboard so we need to finish that first.

When can we expect the first beta of V18? Some neat stuff coming that we're eager to play with!
