Important

  • Used phones previously connected to another PBX system need to be reset first. See how to do this here.
  • If it’s an old phone, you might have to upgrade its firmware to the latest 3CX supported version. See how to do this here.
  • Snom D712, D725, D745, D765, 710, 720 and 760 are marked as EOL by the vendor.
  • If you don't want to use RPS, you have to enter the provisioning URL into the phone via its web interface. The phone will be configured automatically and restarted. Use the DHCP option 66 if you have a large number of identical legacy phones (as the URL is different for each phone).
  • Known limitations
  • Devices with only green BLF LED (Snom 715, Snom D712) will show monitored extensions in idle: ON-Green, ringing: Fast-Flash-Green and talking in Slow-Flash-Green
  • Sidecar follows indication schema of the main device
  • Phonebook contacts that contain special characters are not searchable.

Choosing Between Popular Snom D7 Models

  • D785 / D785N: This is the next generation IP phone, with integrated Bluetooth, a large high-res display of 4.3" and a convenient second screen with up to 24 one-touch keys. Costs in the region of $170.
  • D735: Includes built-in motion sensors that show all the relevant key assignment information as soon as your hand approaches the display or the function keys. Move your hand away and the display will go back to normal. The high-resolution 2.7” color display is surrounded by eight multi-colored function keys that you can label yourself. ‘Digital Signal Processors’ (DSP) optimise sound quality in real time and filter out background noise, ideal for three-way conferences. Costs in the region of $125.
  • D715: Designed to provide high-speed connectivity and high-quality audio. With a four-line black and white graphical display. D715 also has four context-sensitive keys, an intuitive, user-friendly menu and five programmable keys. Ideal for service providers and larger-scale installations. Costs in the region of $100.
  • D717: An advanced IP phone, the D717 features a high-resolution 320 x 240 pixel color LCD display and a unique and innovative brightness and proximity sensor. Additionally, the phone has multi-colour LED function keys, an integrated gigabit switch and a USB port. Costs in the region of $100.
  • D713: Designed to fit into any work environment, with the latest technology, best voice quality and most cost-effective price. It features a high-resolution color display and enables SmartLabel for 4 freely programmable LED function keys. Costs in the region of $90.

Step 1: Identify your Exact Snom D7 Phone Model and MAC Address

Be sure you follow the steps for the correct phone model. You can find the model and the MAC address on the label at the back of the phone or by pressing the settings button and navigating to “Page Information > System Info”. The Snom MAC address always starts with 000413 followed by a series of numbers and/or letters. Take a note of the MAC address, you will need this for the configuration.

Step 2: Add The Phone to the Extension

From the admin console in your web client:

  1. Go to “Users” and select the user you want to add a phone for.
  2. Click on the “IP Phone” tab. Click “Configure a phone” to add a phone.
  3. Now select your phone model from the dropdown menu.
  4. Enter the phone’s MAC address without dashes or colons, and click “Add phone”.

Step 3: Router Phone, SBC or LAN?

  1. If 3CX is on the cloud, you must use a router phone or SBC.
  2. If 3CX is on-premise or self hosted, you have an additional option “Local LAN/VPN”.
  3. Click “Add Phone” to save the phone configuration for this extension.

Step 4: Connect the Phone

3CX will now create provisioning information for the phone and make these available on the provisioning URL. The phone must connect to this URL to retrieve its configuration information and authentication details. You have the following options:

  1. RPS - Connect the phone to the network within 14 days. If it is already connected, restart it. The phone will be configured automatically and restarted.
  2. PNP - If 3CX is on premise or connected via SBC, you can connect the phone to the LAN and look for it in the PNP dialog (Admin Console > Phones > PNP Phones). Right click and assign it to the extension you configured above.

  1. Alternatively you can login to the phone's webUI and enter the URL manually. You can also use DHCP option 66.
