Configuring Linksys SPA-962 for 3CX Phone System

IMPORTANT This guide has been tested with firmware version 5.2.8. Be aware that different firmware revisions may have different web interface formats and functionality. See compatibility list for latest phone firmware revisions that we have tested with 3CX Phone System.
This FAQ is based on a new phone OR one that has been reset to factory defaults.

  1. Ensure that you have created the extension that you wish to use with the phone in 3CX Phone System first. Take note of the Authentication ID and the Authentication Password fields that you have entered for the extension while creating the extension via the Management Console.
  2. Connect the LINKSYS SPA-962 phone to the network and main power supply. The phone will boot up, and providing you have DHCP installed on your network, will obtain an IP. You can view this IP by pressing the setup key (next to the hold key) and selecting Network. For the purposes of this guide, we will assume that the phone’s IP Address is “10.0.0.114".
  3. Now point your browser to the web interface of the phone: (for example http://10.0.0.114)

Configuring the Linksys SPA-932 (Sidecar) and SPA962 with 3CX
3CX Phone System Version 6 with Linksys Firmware 5.2.8(SC)

  1. Attach the sidecar to the phone using the mountings as described in the Quick User guide. The SPA962 can have up to two units attached to it making the phone capable of monitoring a total of 64 lines (32 per unit).
  2. The Linksys Sidecar works only with software versions of Linksys 5.1.12 or later. Check firmware and upgrade to latest.
  3. You will notice that after the upgrade an additional Tab will appear in the Advanced Status Display called SPA932. If you do not see the SPA932 tab, check your firmware version, and upgrade as necessary.

Figure 1: SPA932 tab showing after firmware upgrade
  4. Click on Admin / Advanced on the Administration web server page.
  5. Click the SPA932 tab.
  6. Select Yes from the Unit 1 Enable Pull-down selection list. If you have installed two SPA932 units, also select Yes from the Unit 2 enable pull-down selection list.
  7. Make sure that no is selected on the “Test Mode Enable” selection list.
  8. Choose RFC3265_4235 in the Server Type pull-down selection list.
  9. For each extension or user that you want to monitor using the SPA932, enter the configuration script in the appropriate field for each key. An example of the configuration script is composed as follows:

    Fnc=sd+blf;sub=102@10.172.0.2;nme=102

    a) Where the Fnc means the Function chosen, in this case Speed Dial(sd), and BLF(blf)
    b) Sub means Subscribes for the presence of Extension 102 which is registered to the 3CX Server IP Address of 10.172.0.2
    c) Nme is the Name given to that extension 102 (Optional)

Congratulations: You have configured the SPA962 and SPA 932 Sidecar with the 3CX Phone System.

Known issues – Seems that call pickup with this phone or firmware doesn’t work. When a monitored phone is ringing and you press its button the SPA962 just dials the extension number. We are checking with Linksys on this to see how to resolve this issue.
