Deploy vendor-tested firmware to selected IP phones with flexibility to leave remaining phones on 3CX-tested firmware.
V20 Update 10 Alpha 2 builds on the first Update 10 Alpha, which introduced MCP support, the standalone 3CX AI Server, the Customer Service AI Agent and programmable voice applications.
This release gives Admins more control over IP phone firmware by allowing vendor firmware to be assigned to individual phones rather than changing firmware behaviour across the entire system.
Alpha 2 also adds xAI Grok as a Realtime API provider for built-in 3CX AI Agents and lets Admins customize the prompt used to generate AI call summaries. Read on to learn more.
Flexibility to Deploy Vendor Firmware Per Device
Admins now have more flexibility and freedom when managing phone firmware. With Alpha 2, vendor-tested firmware can be deployed to individual phones or selected groups of phones without changing the default firmware for the rest of your phones. Other devices can continue using the 3CX-tested default firmware.
This also means Admins can deploy a newer firmware release more quickly, directly from a vendor such as Yealink or Fanvil, before it becomes available as a 3CX-tested package. From the 3CX Admin Console, simply assign the Vendor Firmware only to the phones that need it.
From Admin Console > Phones, Admins can:
- Compare the firmware currently running on the phone with the firmware assigned for the next update.
- Upgrade to the default Preferred firmware.
- Select another firmware using Choose Different Firmware.
- Remove an existing firmware assignment with Clear Firmware.
- Apply these actions to one phone or several phones at once.
The Firmware library contains both 3CX Firmware, supplied and tested by 3CX, and Vendor Firmware uploaded by the Admin. For each vendor and model, one firmware file is marked Preferred. This remains the default for new phones and scheduled firmware updates. Selecting Choose Different Firmware changes the firmware only for the phones you select.
Assigning firmware immediately reprovisions registered phones and may reboot them. Offline phones apply their assignment when they reconnect and provision. Enabled schedule update applies the model’s Preferred Firmware at a predefined time slot and is rechecked on a weekly or monthly basis.
Additional tools allow easy management of your phones, for example Moving a phone from one user to another, Switching templates between the default and a custom, resending or revoking RPS per device.
See the IP Phone Firmware Management guide for full instructions on uploading firmware, configuring schedules and checking firmware status from the Dashboard.
Use xAI Grok With 3CX AI Agents
Update 10 Alpha 2 adds xAI Grok as a Realtime API provider for the built-in 3CX AI Receptionist, Personal Assistant and Customer Service Agent on 3CX AI Edition – adding a second realtime provider and faster first response on the call.
Go to Admin > Integrations > AI > Realtime API, select xAI Grok and configure the required API credentials and recommended models. OpenAI remains available as a Realtime API provider. Admins should use the models recommended for their installed 3CX version as AI providers may retire models over time.
See the Configuring xAI Grok for 3CX AI Agents and Configuring OpenAI for 3CX AI Agents guides for the full setup.
Customise the AI Call Summary Prompt
Update 10 introduced a more structured call summary format with Summary, Notes and Action Items.
If you have transcription enabled using 3CX AI Server, OpenAI, Google or xAI Grok, Alpha 2 now lets Admins customize the prompt used to generate these summaries.
Go to Admin > Integrations > Transcription > Summary Prompt and select Edit. The prompt can be adjusted to produce a shorter recap, follow a company-specific format or focus on information required by a particular workflow. When a custom prompt is in use, the Admin Console displays CUSTOM. Select Reset to 3CX Default and save to return to the standard 3CX prompt.
