New streamlined way to deploy 3CX

In Update 7 we’ve improved and simplified our deployment method. Starting with this update each instance of 3CX has to be deployed from www.3cx.com/install/.

Default Deployment Service from 3cx.com
Update 7 Beta is now the default deployment service from 3cx.com. If you want to deploy using the old Update 6 method, deploy directly from the Customer Portal. Alternatively, you can download the Update 6 ISO or the Update 6 Windows installer.

Three Deployment Options

You will be given 3 deployment options:

  • StartUP
  • Dedicated hosted
  • Self-hosted / On-premise

In the case of StartUP and Dedicated hosted, the instance will be deployed straight from 3cx.com without the need to go to the Customer Portal (you just need a 3cx.com account).

In the case of Self-hosted / On-premise, you will be given a deployment file for download (or a link to it) which has to be supplied to the Self-hosted / On-premise instance after installation. 3CX setup will then configure 3CX accordingly.

On-Premise

The procedure is similar to before, but instead of running the PBX configuration wizard after installing on Windows or Linux, you will supply the installer with the configuration file created on www.3cx.com/install/.

The old option of running the PBX configuration wizard is still available until all options are moved online. Most notably a custom certificate option will be made available.

Self-hosted - Deploy from marketplaces

Prior to Update 7, you could deploy straight from the 3CX site to the various hosting companies. However, this meant significant work in terms of updating to their APIs and keeping up to date with the various deployment options. These days all major hosters we work with have marketplaces to deploy ready images. We already had 3CX images available in Google, Amazon, Azure and DigitalOcean and it made sense to focus on these.

Simply launch the marketplace image, then supply the configuration file obtained from www.3cx.com/install/ when prompted.

See our guides for Google Cloud, Amazon Cloud, Azure and DigitalOcean.

Unfortunately, Amazon Lightsail does not support marketplace images nor can you upload ISO images to Amazon Lightsail. However, DigitalOcean is a better solution at the same price and you can get started with a $250 credit here.

We will be listing our image in the Vultr and OVH marketplaces as well.

Other improvements in Update 7 Beta

  • We’ve added the "Perform Receptionist Operations” for the System Owner, System Admin & Group Owner roles. This includes:
