How to Configure D1 and D3 Series

Snom D120, D140, D150, D305, D315, D335, D345, D375, D385 models

Important

  • Used phones previously connected to another PBX system need to be reset first. See how to do this here.
  • If it’s an old phone, you might have to upgrade its firmware to the latest 3CX supported version. See how to do this here.
  • Snom D305, D375 are marked as EOL by the vendor.
  • Known limitations
  • Snom D305 and Snom D315 (Configurable, Redial, Address Book, Transfer)
  • Snom D305 and Snom D315 don't support sidecar extensions
  • Snom 300, Snom 320, Snom 360 and Snom 370 are marked as EOL and can only be manually configured. Read more here.
  • Green LED representing idle monitored extensions can only be seen on the 3 color LED devices (sidecar follows indication schema of the main device)
  • Phonebook contacts that contain special characters are not searchable.

About the Snom D1/D3 Series

  • D385 / D385N: With a large 4.3" TFT color display, it offers convenient access to all key information such as call lists, address books and functions with up to 48 customizable keys. Bluetooth integration is also available. Snom D385 can be easily transformed into a conferencing device with the A230 DECT dongle and the Snom C52-SP expansion speaker. Costs in the region of $170.
  • D335: Integrates the many features of the Snom D735 without having to give up the form factor of the popular 3 series. The high-resolution TFT color display is framed by 8 physical fully customizable function keys. Includes built-in motion sensors that show all the relevant key assignment information as soon as your hand approaches the display or the function keys. Move your hand away and the display will go back to normal. Costs in the region of $120.
  • D315: Its flexible design makes it suitable for use in a wide variety of environments, including offices, call centres and reception areas. Costs in the region of $100.
  • Snom D120 is ideal for large installations such as hospitals, hotels, schools. Equipped with an HD graphic display with backlight, 4 context-sensitive and 5 pre-assigned function keys. An entry-level phone, easy to use and cost effective. Costs in the range of $50.

Step 1: Identify your Snom D1 / D3 Phone Model and MAC Address

You can find the model and the MAC address on the label at the back of the phone or by pressing the settings button and navigating to “Page Information > System Info”. The Snom MAC address always starts with 000413 followed by a series of numbers and/or letters. Take a note of the MAC address, you will need this for the configuration.

Step 2: Add The Phone to the Extension

From the Admin Console in your Web Client:

  1. Go to “Users” and select the user you want to add a phone for.
  2. Click on the “IP Phone” tab. Click “Configure a phone” to add a phone.
  3. Now select your phone model from the dropdown menu.
  4. Enter the phone’s MAC address without dashes or colons, and click “Add phone”.

Step 3: Router Phone, SBC or LAN?

  1. If 3CX is on the cloud, you must use a router phone or SBC.
  2. If 3CX is on-premise or self hosted, you have an additional option “Local LAN/VPN”.
  3. Click “Add Phone” to save the phone configuration for this extension.

Step 4: Connect the Phone

3CX will now create provisioning information for the phone and make these available on the provisioning URL. The phone must connect to this URL to retrieve its configuration information and authentication details. You have the following options:

  1. RPS - Connect the phone to the network within 14 days. If it is already connected, restart it. The phone will be configured automatically and restarted.
  2. PNP - If 3CX is on premise or connected via SBC, you can connect the phone to the LAN and look for it in the PNP dialog (Admin Console > Phones > PNP Phones). Right click and assign it to the extension you configured above.

  1. Alternatively you can login to the phone's webUI and enter the URL manually. You can also use DHCP option 66.
