Zero Admin. Secure. Modern. Unified Communications: 3CX V15 Does All

Expanded feature set, yet reduced admin allows retaining control – on premise or in private cloud

LONDON, UK, 06 JULY, 20163CX, developer of the next-generation software-based Unified Communications Solution, announces its latest release. 3CX Version 15 is set to eliminate PBX admin with more features, higher security, a modern look and easier integration with more applications.

The First Zero Admin PBX

With v15, ongoing maintenance has been reduced to almost nothing. Many aspects of running a PBX have been automated, avoiding the need to move to an expensive public cloud service. Companies can retain full control of their phone system – on premise or in the cloud. Security, backup and restore, update management and failover are automatically managed by 3CX.

Nick Galea, CEO 3CX said:
“3CX V15 raises the bar on Unified Communications systems with zero admin, bulletproof security, integrated video conferencing, more applications integrations and more. We expect this feature set and our new pricing strategy to dramatically increase our market share.”

Bulletproof Security

3CX’s inbuilt security has been notched up:

  • Automatic generation and management of SSL certificates:
    • Provisioning of phones via HTTPS
    • Connections to client and console via SSL
    • A+ rating from SSL lab.
  • Encryption of Voice Traffic via SRTP
  • All traffic to clients and via SBC is encrypted
  • More secure web server configuration
  • Detection and auto blacklisting of SIP Attack tools

3CX now sets the standard in PBX security.

New Interface

The 3CX client and management console interface have been made more user friendly. 3CX has a more UC like interface, whilst retaining its softphone functionality. More themes have been added, as has the ability to specify a custom background/logo.

New themes added to the 3CX v15 release candidate

More & Customizable Application Integrations

We’ve expanded our integration – by supporting more applications out of the box and by adding a scriptable interface that makes it easy to integrate with any CRM / Contact Centre / Outbound call center solution. And we have made it easy to deploy network-wide and to maintain centrally. 3CX currently supports: Office 365, Google Contacts, Microsoft Dynamics, Exact, Sugarcrm, Salesforce, act!, Zendesk and Freshdesk with more to follow.

  • Ability to install and update centrally via the management console
  • Easy to use scripting interface
  • Easily adapt or create integrations for almost any CRM
  • Create outbound call scripts

Standards Based Web Conferencing Included

3CX integrates open standards based video conferencing without requiring additional software, administration or licensing:

  1. Is there a tentative date for the final version to be released? 1 month? 2 months?, etc.

I have a customer who utilizes Hotel Module, but the call accounting is broke for them in v14 but it is fixed in v15. Can you circle around and get a possible time frame for the v15 hotel module?

This leaves me with 1 hotel with broken 3cx services currently, and 4-5 more waiting to upgrade.

    • Hi Matthew – We are releasing next Monday 11 July! However, the hotel module will be completed by service pack 1 and will be part of the PRO edition. Some features are already available in the release edition, such as the billing and wake up IVRs

  3. Hi, Have updated from v14 to v15 however it only transferred 1 sip trunk, there are 3 in total but it ignored 10001 and 10002. It also ignored all inbound rules and DID’s.

Any idea how to resolve this?

    July 6, 2016 at 11:02 pm
    • Thats probably because you use a free license key – which supports just one SIP trunk. You will need to use your NFR or Commercial license key during install.

Also – did you restore from web interface or at install time. Please make sure its done at install time.

      July 7, 2016 at 3:21 am
    • Hi Nick, I restored from a backup of V14 and it picked the license key up automatically. License is 16SC Pro.

Fantastic update! We successfully completed upgrade from 14 today. You mention Zendesk integration in this post. When is this expected?

    July 7, 2016 at 2:16 pm
    • Hi Roelf – Thanks for the great feedback! Zendesk is ready, expect it to be available via updates soon…

      Hi Nick.
Thanks! Have been with 3CX since 9, sometimes struggling a bit, but glad to have hung in there.
That’s really encouraging, have been wrestling with several 3rd party attempts to integrate with Zendesk; but these where not to our satisfaction or a complete failure. Do you have an indicative ETA for this update?

      July 12, 2016 at 4:32 pm
    • @Ronald – We are going to release Zendesk Very soon!!! You are lucky :)

  8. Is Windows 10 PRO required? If so, is that what the Wintel PRO boxes you are using come with.

    July 7, 2016 at 6:51 pm
    • Hi Chuck, No normal Windows 10 is fine and this is what the wintel boxes come with…

      July 8, 2016 at 9:26 am
  9. Hi, I just installed v15, but the free version. Is it normal I cannot do firmware upgrades or send welcome mails?

    July 7, 2016 at 6:58 pm
    • Your maintenance needs to be activated for firmware upgrades. Any case please contact support as welcome emails should not be affected.

      July 8, 2016 at 9:27 am
    • Hi Nick, sorry about the mail issue, I had a problem with my outgoing mailserver. Used gmail now and that works.
Is there a new v15 Android app available as well or is this not released yet?

I also see FXS/DECT Extensions, is this for DECT phones? I can only create FAX extensions here?

Will the Mac OS X 3cx client be able to scrub though recordings, in v14 you can’t, which is a huge issue. Oddly you can in the iOS app. And by chance has the ability been added to have on demand call recordings initiated by phone or 3cx client be emailed to the user?

    July 8, 2016 at 5:50 pm
    • Yes you can. You need rights and you will see RECS. You can record on demand and you can download and attach to email and send it.

Wowza, problem solved like it never hanepped.

  11. I am excited about much of v15, but it its difficult to transition when key things are removed or maybe I just can’t find them… particularly, Trunks/Ports Screen and The Extension View.
I can find no way to see the vital real-time information those screens provided. I have no way to see what trunks are active with what or Who is on a call and to whom or what their availability status is.
Am I missing something or are those screen removed? If so, can we get them back??

    July 8, 2016 at 7:19 pm
  12. Will it be possible to install an own SSL certificate during installation, issued by trusted certificate authority and specially will be necessary to reinstall the PBX, if certificate is either renewed or for some reason replaced ?

I read that if 3CX FQDN service is selected, it will not be possible to replace the certificate without reinstall of the PBX. Does this mean that having valid maintenance is a must, otherwise the PBX will misbehave after expiration of SSL certificate or 3CX maintenance ?

  13. Hi Nick,

Are there any way to build a on premises Webmeeting Server for 3CX Phone System ? Some customers like banks, goverment offices cannot use cloud for the policy.

We can charge them for this products.

At Clarity Technologies Group, LLC we are not known for being the “early adopter.” We test, re-test, and then test again before deploying anything “new” for our customers or ourselves. There are the occasional exceptions however.

3CX Ver. 15 is being fast tracked by 3CX. We installed the Alpha, then the Beta, RC and RC 2 on our lab machine. We found some things we did not like and some things we will need to get accustomed to. We love the new 3CX Phone and we were using it on Ver. 14 as soon as it came out. For example, you can load a custom logo. Very nice…you can see a very simple presence screen, also very nice…

It was suggested that we load the RC2 on our production PBX and candidly, I was not keen about that but decided to break the rules and go for it.
We are now running on Ver. 15 RC2. We performed a backup from Ver. 14, verified our password for our existing SSL Certificate, uninstalled Ver. 14 and installed Ver. 15 RC2.

We have 30 VoIP (SIP) trunks, a host of DID’s, and 9 bridges, 40 to 90 local and remote users on Yealink, Fanvil, Grandstream, Cisco, Linksys, Polycom, and Snom phones. We have SIP door phones and or other devices by Algo, Mobotix, Robin, Snom, and Cyberdata. Our staff not only recommends 3CX Phone to our clients, we utilize it in house, on iPhone, Android, and Sonim Smart Phones on Wi-Fi and on 3G / 4G / LTE.

We are on Ver. 15 RC2 now for three days. Great build! We are looking forward to the release tomorrow and SP1 soon.

One of the biggest surprises after purchasing 3cx was the discovery that the the Mac 3cx client cannot operate in CTI mode like the PC version, feature parity is very important us and I did not learn this till it was too late. Any change with v15 in this regard?

    July 10, 2016 at 8:50 pm
    • I have the same question as MC Campbell. I’ve had 3CX for nearly a year in an all Mac environment, and the desktop app is effectively unused as a result of not having CTI.

  17. At the Version 15 roll out webinar announcing the new release, the company president mentioned a particular miniPC that came with a Windows OS, SSD and Ram that was under $100. What was the product he mentioned, please? I would like to get one in for testing purposes.
